THE NAKED TRUTH

Nowadays, the overwhelming majority of movies stars, models and celebrities pose naked for one MAJOR reason. And Carol Baker explained it very candidly, when she answered a Paris Match reporter's question: "Why all of a sudden, you began to appear naked in your films?" Baker's career  and Hollywood future began to decline. So she left the United States and headed to Paris, hoping to star in French movies. So, Baker so candidly told the French reporter: " I do not take my clothes off to show you my talent. I do it because this IS what your French cinema and producers need to sell their movies." In other words, she did it because she needed a job, as simple as that. So, nudity in movies catapults sales and feed box offices. World famous artist, Alison Lapper stated: "My Body Is Art" at the premiere of her show in London. "I don't feel the least bit embarrassed about everyone staring at me naked - I wouldn't have done it if I felt like that. I hope it opens their eyes." No quivers at all at the thought of millions of eyes skating over her oversized nude form? Her "nope" is so abrupt it gallops over the question. The sculpture has already caused querulous difficulties for some.

Another perspective: The full frontal nudity of Maruschka Detmars in First Name: Carmen and of Myriem Roussel in Hail Mary! was used to eroticize situations. The anticipation of sex was more arousing than the act. When we see a naked woman on screen today we can be sure that intercourse will follow. Female characters today wear costumes that invite leers, but their appeal is a banal sexiness, a prurient guise in a puritanical society. Godard filmed women naked because, like Velazquez or Weston, he appreciated the line and curve of the body. Their beauty and power transfix us because we are simply asked to gaze upon it, as in the opening scene of Contempt, when the camera lingers on Brigitte Bardot’s naked body and she invites Michel Piccoli to review her assets: "What about my ankles?

Photo: "Propped",1992. Famous artwork by  Jenny Saville, exhibited in a place of honor at the London SAATCHI Expo. Even grotesque nude "art" sells. The show attracted over 2 millions visitors.

But how about ordinary women who are not movies stars, models ofrfame diggers? Why do they strip? How about school teachers and anchorwomen at respectable TV and media networks? Why do they pose nude or take off their clothes in public? What is the purpose? Not easy to answer the question. But believe it of not, they do it either for for fun and  excitement, or for expressing a sexual freedom.

NUDITY AS ART

A model at Paris Week Fashion Show, 2005. Designers use the natural assets of a woman to display their  feminine apparels and bijouteries. Studies show that almost 98% of models gladly accept to pose topless or completely naked if the price is right.

WHAT ORDINARY FOLKS THINK!

Excerpt from  reader's letters  sent to Marjorie Harp, an editor  at "LA FEMME MAGAZINE:

EDUCATION OR RELIGION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STRIPPING NAKED IN PUBLIC

Photo: Anchorwoman Catherine Bosley taken last year by a man in the audience at a Key West bar, Florida, USA.

Dear Marjorie: It is my strong belief that members of the media should observe the highest standards of ethics since they enter our living room each single day and night. However, many of them don't give a damn about morality. And guess what? Those who break the rules of decency are almost women. One northeast Ohio news anchorwoman, Catherine Bosley is a perfect example. This woman worked as anchor for ten years at WKBN in Youngstown, Ohio. She went to a bar in Key West and paraded nude on stage in the presence of her husband who enjoyed showing off his wife completely naked. Some one in the audience took tons of pictures of her after she stripped naked on stage. The pictures remained in the vault for almost one year until all of a sudden they surfaced on the Internet. Bosley lost her job.

Why educated women do stuff like this? Are they nuts or what? When cornered, Bosley said  "It was just a spur of the moment, silly, irresponsible thing to do that I regretted a great deal the next morning." They always regret when they are caught. I noticed that almost 99% of women who did boob job love to expose their reconstructed breast. They just love it! Silly women. I used to believe that only low class and uneducated women do silly thing like this. But when I see highly educated women go wild in public, I come to one conclusion: Education or religion has nothing to do with it. Women once freed from social restrictions, they become wild not FREE! And this so-called feminine social freedom began in the sixties. And how they manifest their freedom? Strip in public. Sex was always their medium. Take it off baby, this is how you become free. Yah right! Richard Manson, Biloxi, Mississippi, USA.

MANY WOMEN DO IT JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT?!

SHOWING UP HER BOOBS IS OK! BUT WHY HER LOWER PART?

Hello Marjorie: This is Jean-Louis Marchand from Nice, France. First, let me tell you how much I love LA FEMME MAGAZINE. You have class, ma chere, beaucoup de classe! I just love your magazine, so beautiful and fun. Okay, let me say a few words about Mrs. Bosley. She wants to show off her breast, it is fine. I have no problem with this. Here in France, in Nice, Cote D'Azur, Saint Tropez, all women sit on the sea sand topless and nobody cares. Only some Arabs from Morocco, Tunis and Algeria keep on looking at our women. As I said, I have no problem with Mrs. Bosley's boobs. But, mon Dieu, her plastic surgeon did a miserable job. They look fake, very fake. Doesn't she know that? How about her husband, didn't he look at these two bazookas? From her profile side, they look good but from the front, Oh LaLaLa! they are terrible! Another thing. Let her show off her breast, but why she strips completely? Why did she show her lower part. Did she do any job on her v...? That would be stupid. In brief, please do not make a big deal about this. It seems to me that she is having fun. Now, if her husband does not mind, why should others do? I don't understand? Sincerely, one of your fanatic fans, Jean-Louis Marchand, Nice, France.
