Education: Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, California. BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: The Mask gave Cameron Diaz an ulcer. Now, it’s not that the lovely model was a stranger to the camera. Indeed not. It was the realization, during filming, that her unexpectedly big first role was in a BIG movie, and it didn’t help that she had no training or experience in acting -- no turn as a pre-pubescent Annie or high school Mame. She did well enough, though, and soon could “stomach” even the toughest of movie roles. Six years earlier, the lovely 16 year old unknown met a photographer at a party. Within weeks she had dropped out of her San Diego school to take on a fabulous international career with the Elite Modeling Agency. Diaz was in demand, jetting to exotic locales and being very well paid for the trouble. At 22, though, she decided, perhaps naively, to branch into Hollywood, and quickly won a small part in the big-budget flick The Mask (1994). Executives turned the part from “small” to “lead,” and stressful though it was, it got the novice actor noticed and hired for the physically demanding Mortal Combat, a role she ultimately had to give up due to injury.

CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED

MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES

CAMERON DIAZ

A few acting lessons later, a more confident Diaz took on 1996's The Last Supper, Feeling Minnesota, and She’s The One, for that year’s ShoWest Female Star of Tomorrow nod. The work kept coming and Diaz opted for more interesting, less predictable roles in My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997 - Blockbuster Entertainment Favorite Supporting Actress award), A Life Less Ordinary (1997), Head Above Water (1997), Keys to Tulsa (1997), There’s Something About Mary (1998), Very Bad Things (1998), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Any Given Sunday (1999), and Being John Malkovich (1999 - Golden Globe nomination and Screen Actors’ Guild award nomination). Upcoming for the actor are lead roles in Shrek (voice), Invisible Circus, Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her, and she’s to be one of a gorgeous threesome of Charlie’s Angels. Diaz picks her films carefully, alternating artistic independents with public-pleasing mainstream hits. She’s found her niche in Hollywood, having gone from just-another-pretty-face to respected “hot property” in a very few years. Hopefully there are no more ulcers in her future -- it appears to us that she has nothing to worry about.

CELEBRITIES OF THE YEAR: FROM THE MOST BORING TO THE MOST TALENTED

MOST TALENTED AND LUCKIEST CELEBRITIES

CATHERINE ZETA JONES

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: It’s the classic story, in fact, the 42nd Street story: Unknown actress from small town (in this case Mumbles, Wales) gets her big break when she goes on in understudied role one night. She’s cast as the star (of 42nd Street) and goes on to fame and fortune. Catherine Zeta Jones was an accomplished singer and dancer as a youngster, touring with a local amateur performing troupe. At age 11, she was playing the title role in local productions of Annie and, at 13, a lead role in Bugsy Malone. At 14 she was hired for a touring production of The Pajama Game, and then moved to London to pursue acting full-time. She moved up from second understudy to showstopping star in that West End production of 42nd Street when only 16 years old. From London, the strikingly beautiful actor traveled to France, and made her feature film debut in Les 1001 Nuits/Scheherazade (1990). In 1991, at 22 years of age, she took on the role of the eldest daughter in the British television series, The Darling Buds of May. During Darling Bud’s three-year run, she appeared in two American productions, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (TV - 1992), and Christopher Columbus: The Discovery (1992); and the British feature films Out of the Blue (1991) and Splitting Hairs (1993). Before leaving England “to escape the British tabloids,” Jones took to the London stage for an English National Opera production of Street Scenes. A huge star in the United Kingdom, Jones was almost unknown in Hollywood, but worked steadily through her first few years with The Return of the Native (TV - 1994),The Cinder Path (1994), Catherine The Great (TV mini-series - 1995), Blue Juice (1995), The Phantom (1996), and Titanic (TV docu-drama - 1996). It was on the strength of that Titanic performance that producer Steven Spielberg convinced the director of Mask of Zorro to cast Jones as Zorro’s ‘Elena’. That swashbuckling heroine role earned the actor a 1999 ShoWest award for Best Supporting Actress, and led to roles in The Haunting (1999) and Entrapment (1999). Jones was awarded the 1999 European People’s Choice Film Award for Best Actress for the latter. Her popularity continued as she was named to People Magazine’s 10 Best-Dressed List in September of 1999. Jones and fiancé, actor Michael Douglas, have recently announced imminent joint-parenthood and wedding plans. Jones, in fact, turned down a starring role in the upcoming Beyond Borders due to her pregnancy. Set for release in 2000, though, are her films Traffic, High Fidelity and The Tenth Victim. With a new production company (“Zeta”), motherhood, marriage, and star-status, Jones has a full plate in the immediate future. The actor, once described as “a smart piece of fluff,” is now a solid Hollywood presence.

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Daniela was discovered in Prague at age 19 by Dominique Caffin of Madison agency. She had planned to study for a degree in Education. Daniela has had two calendars and appeared in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition in 1995 and 1998, and was the cover model in 1995. She has earned the nickname "The Chameleon" for being able to change her look easily and describes herself as a health-freak. Daniela has thought of becoming a translator once she finishes modeling. She is married to Tommaso Buti, the former CEO of the Fashion Café and they have a son, Yannick Fausto. She left Buti in 1998. Daniela also has two Jack Russell terriers, Tino and Soda. Born on October 14, 1970 in the Czech Republic, Daniela Pestova has made her mark in the modeling world. Appearing in GUESS? ads in 1990 with Claudia Schiffer, Daniela was transformed into a super star practically over night - just one year after leaving her communist homeland. Shot by Ellen Von Unwerth in Morocco, Daniela and Claudia were pictured in some of the most memorable images of GUESS? advertising history. At 5’11” with blonde hair and blue eyes, she looks like the all-American girl. Her looks were admired by Paul Marciano, president and creative director of GUESS?, Inc. who has a reputation for picking out the yet undiscovered faces that will become the supermodels of today. Born and raised behind the Iron Curtain during a time of political chaos, dreams were not expected to come true for Daniela. However, she was in the right place at the right time when she was discovered in Prague by Dominique Caffin of the Madison modeling agency at the age of 19. She had planned to attend college for a degree in Education when she was spotted going into a theatre. He asked her to enter a modeling contest, which she won, and flew her to Paris to sign with his agency. In 1992, without speaking a word of English (but fluent in Italian, Russian, French and Czech), she moved to New York. Her career skyrocketed as she appeared on the covers of major fashion magazines - including Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire and Glamour. In 1994, she landed a huge contract with L'Oreal to become a spokesperson and print model and also began a long-running relationship with Victoria's Secret. Daniela is married to Tomasso Buti, the former CEO of the Fashion Cafe. Buti resigned in September 1998 from his management role at the model-fronted eatery, amid allegations that he squandered funds. Daniela and Tomasso are currently separated. Daniela gave birth to their son in 1996.

DANIELA PESTOVA

His name is Yannick Fausto. Professionally, she is most proud of nabbing the cover of Sports Illustrated's 1995 swimsuit issue. She admits she needs to watch her weight by not eating sweets like cookies or chocolate and by staying away from bread - her weakness. When her modeling career is over, she says she would like to become a translator or perhaps just spend her days having more children and running on the beach with her dogs. For now, however, she’s happy with modeling, especially for her own swimsuit calendar. Daniela came from a well to do family in the former Czechoslovakia. Shortly after signing with Madison, she found that it would be more beneficial for her to sign with a U.S. agency. She moved to New York and jumped over to Spectrum, until the company dissolved. She then signed with Elite. She is known mostly for her pictures in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues and Victoria's Secret. Daniela is an excellent linguist and would like to see her talent used after her career as a model. She knows Russian, French, Italian, and Czech. At the height of her modeling career, she did not know a word of English, but today speaks it perfectly with only a hint of an accent. Also, when she first began, booking a job for her was very difficult due to her country being Communist at the time.

DANNII MINOGUE

Name: Dannii Minogue. Birth Name: Dannielle Minogue.  Nationality: Australian. Birth Date: October 20, 1971. Birth Place: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Occupation: Model. Husband: Julian McMahon (divorced). Relationship: Jacques Villenueve (Formula 1 driver). Sister: Kylie Minogue (singer). Brother: Brenden Minougue (TV camera man; younger). Awards: Voted the Best Actress Leading at the British Academy Award 1973 through her appearance in CABARET. Discography: Danni (Australia only; 1990), Love And Kisses (1991), Get Into You (1993), Girl (1997).

BIOGRAPHY SYNOPSIS: Danielle Jane Minogue is the youngest of three children. To a certain extent the slight artistic background of the Minogue family explains the talent and interest of Dannii. Her mother was once a professional ballet dancer, her brother is a cameraman for television and her sister is no one else than Kylie Minogue. At an early age Dannii starts taking singing- and dancing lessons. In 1978 she gets a tiny role in the Australian television series Skyways. Her talent gets everyone's attention during the popular Australian talent show Young Talent Time. Three years later in 1982 she is an official member of the YTT-crew. Furthermore Dannii was allowed to sing on the YTT-album with a cover of Madonna's Material Girl. The following album represents Dannii with two more songs. For six years Dannii was part of YTT. In 1988 Dannii decides to put her self-designed YTT-outfits on the market. With success. Her own brand, simply called DANII, is completely sold out in ten days time. Finally Dannii is contracted by the Australian record company Mushroom Records. In 1989 she releases her first solo single Love And Kisses which sells 60.000 copies. A very promising start. Her debut album, named after her first hit single, stays in the Australian charts for some months. The singles I Don't Wanna Take This Pain and Jump To The Beat continue the success. It was a big joy for Dannii when she became famous outside of Australia. In 1993 she hits the number 10 spot in the English chart with the single This Is It. Mainly because of the huge success of her sister they will become the best well-known singing sisters from that year. With her second album Get Into You the English popularity rises. But Dannii's big international breakthrough which was hoped for and quietly expected did not happen. Nevertheless she was in the news quite some time. She married, divorced, stood uninspired and un-erotic in Playboy magazine, took some time off, designed a new fashion line for her brand DANNII, had a couple of hit singles in Australia and that was it. Unlike her sister Dannii never received global attention and appreciation. But Dannii Minogue stayed active in music and showbiz. In 1999 she releases a single-compilation album and takes part in an theatre production of MacBeth. The cooperation with producer Riva results in her musical comeback in 2001. Their single Who Do You Love Now? gives Dannii Minogue her big international hit at last.  By the end of 2002 her new studio album will be released. Then we shall found out if she is able to stand up to her sister and all those countless comparisons. But whatever the (commercial) outcome will be, Dannii Minogue is a respectable actress and a gifted fashion designer. Despite all her musical efforts. And despite her sister.
