Alison-portraitAlison Meyer: Photographer Extraordinaire and Artist of the Month.

by maximillien de lafayette

Photographers mesmerize me, when their camera frees and freezes the moment, when their visions capture our inner world in its most intimate fragility, tenderness, beauty, strength and drama...photographers like Max Waldman, Bill Brandt, Renate Aller and Alison Meyer...

Those superb artists create and capture a multi layered world of visions, feelings, dreams, hopes and serve as the custodians of human chronicle. Especially, when they send free, wild, unspoiled and unrehearsed nature, trees, plains, old warm houses, cascades, horizons and beyond as Alison Meyer does. By pure coincidence, I met this magnificent, sweet, warm, stunning and super talented young woman who left a deep impression on me and upon my absurd intellectualism. She told me that she was a photographer. Big deal! So many photographers are photographers. And our offices are full of them. So why to get excited by a new one? Well, after I have listened to Alison Meyer and been taken by the way she explained to me how her camera lives, breathes and takes pictures, I got curious, enchanted and excited. So I decided to search for her world and learn more about this charming and mysterious woman. Many photographers shot the sky and the deep, the horizon and old houses, farms and trees. But, Alison Meyer does it differently. She talks to nature. She waits for the right and delicate moment to capture the meaning, definition, secret beauty and very existence of what she chooses to shoot. This is why, her photos look like a Monet impressionistic expression, like Manet gentle screams, like Severini vibrant compositions in an almost sacred dimension. Meyer mastered the camera. Alison Meyer specializes in fine outdoor photography. This is what part of her autobiography stated. But Meyer's outdoor photos resonate in an inner world of feelings. This woman knows how to take photos. And she does it with modest grace, limpidity and poetically sensual flair. I just admire and love her work.

Her biography tells us that for over 13 years Alison Meyer has been a professional photographer in North Idaho, selling her photographs to thousands of customers world-wide. Alison’s award-winning photography is sold in galleries, shops, art shows, and on the web. Her prints are displayed in private and public collections around the world, including in Congressional offices, US Embassies, and in homes and work places on six continents. "I remember when I was a little girl, holding my fingers in a rectangle in front of my face, pretending to frame a photograph of the scene in front of me. Being a photographer or an artist seemed very exciting and special, so much so that while growing up I barely considered it possible for me to pursue these magical things, especially as a career.  ", said Meyer.

The Enchanting World of Alison Meyer

Alison wrote: "Today, as I write this statement describing myself as a photographer, I still see photography as a gift in my life. I’m not completely comfortable saying that I am a photographer, as easily as I can say that I know I'm fortunate that I (and some others) get satisfaction from some of the photographs that I make. Growing up near New York City exposed me to a variety of creative energies and opportunities for viewing and learning about art. Although the emphasis at that time was often on more avant-garde art that hadn’t been done before, I felt most attracted to images that provided comfort and visual retreat from a hectic world.

I found myself drawn to Impressionists, Pictorialists, and to contemporary painters who blend swaths of colors into abstract landscapes, connecting emotions with their artistic interpretation of place. In my early 20’s, a cross country trip with a friend, cameras, and life's essentials crammed into a Datsun hatchback for three months on the road introduced me to travel, outdoor photography, and wide open landscapes. Returning home to a supportive audience of friends and family who encouraged me to show and print my travel pictures made photography as a profession seem remotely possible. After doing numerous jobs in Boston relating to the technical aspects of photography (commercial lab work, studio assisting) and graduating from college, it was time for the Move West.

A friend in Idaho led me to the Inland Northwest and for over 13 years the mountains, lakes, and Palouse fields of this region have been my home and the subjects of my outdoor photography. The experience of Idaho country living has given me a deep admiration of the natural world. Hiking, fishing, falconry, hunting, and gardening have exposed me to many scenes and creatures that have inspired my lifestyle and my work. The challenges and rewards of creating photographs which evoke nature’s often subtle and fleeting beauties continue to fuel my picture-taking, but the incredibly supportive response from viewers who complement and encourage me has been the most overwhelming benefit of my work."

The Magic of Alison Meyer: Worlds beyond worlds. Visions within visions...and photography mastery at many levels.

Renate Aller: The photographer who captures our world  with elegant simplicity and lyrical Drama...

by maximillien de lafayette

Renate Aller made her mark on world photography. She did it with tragic simplicity and eloquent silence in motion, lights, shadows and the multi-juxtaposed dimensions of her camera, capturing the moment when the  clouds and seascapes unite with the divine and the unreachable...

She is a New Yorker who's camera witnessed the 9/11 tragedy, the glamour of women's motionless sensuality and the drama that ties humans with a bursting and screaming nature. She photographs femme fatales, elegant women, the clouds, inexistent people who make you think, and the infinity of nothingness. You see it in her shots of angry and nostalgic skies, horizons, clouds, seascapes and ultra modern installations.

All Renate's photos are taken from exactly the same location, each seascape photographed at a different point of time, representing the history of art from Caspar David Friedrich and Turner to contemporary representation and the weight of history on the world today.Renate's photos of the clouds, the tempest of nature and forms of humans, the shapeless sound of elegant heels of fancy women dressed in red and running  with eroticism, class and "un je ne sais quoi" in the streets of New York, ascertain her lyrico-laisse faire-professionalism and mastery of the camera. Renate is  America's photography Diva!
